Like youth and good health, most of us take our looks for granted, until they're gone. For bald people, a hair transplant can help bring back what looks like a full head of hair.
If thinning hair or going bald bothering you, the hair transplant procedure can be one way to grow your hair and make you feel more confident about your appearance. But before undergoing Hair Transplant, first, discuss with your doctor regarding what you can expect during, and after the surgery.
What is a Hair Transplant?
It's a special type of surgery; doctors move hair you already have to fill the area with thin or no hair.
Procedure
First, surgeons clean your scalp and inject medicine to numb the back of your head. Doctors can opt one of the two procedures, follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction (FUE).
Doing FUSS, the surgeons remove a 6- to 10-inches strip of skin from the back of your head. They set it aside and sew the scalp closed. The hairs of the neighboring area will immediately cover the strip.
Next, the doctor's team divides the strip of the removed scalp into 500 to 2,000 tiny grafts, each with a single hair or just a few hairs. The number and types of graft you get, depend on your hair type, color, quality, and the size of the area you need the transplant.
If you are getting the FUE procedure, doctor’s team trim the back of your scalp. Then after, they remove hair follicles one by one from the back. The areas heal with small dots, and your existing hair will cover it.
Now onward, both the procedures FUE and FUSS will go the same. After preparing the grafts, the doctor's team cleans and numbs the area where the hair will go. After that, doctors create holes or slits with scalpels or needles and delicately place each graft in every hole.
Depending on the size of transplant you are getting, the process can take about 4 to 8 hrs. You might need another transplant session later on, in case; you continue to lose hair or want to have thicker hair.
Expectations and Recovery
After the hair transplant surgery, your scalp may feel tender. You may need to take painkillers for several days. Your doctors will have you wear bandages, over your scalp for at least one day or two. They can also prescribe multiple doses of antibiotic or anti-inflammatory drugs for you that can continue for several days. Most people return to work in 2 to 5 days after the Surgery.
Within 2 to 3 weeks of the surgery, the transplanted hair will fall out, but you will notice new growth after few months. Many people see 60% of newly grown hair after 6 to 9 months. Doctors also prescribe the hair-growing drug such as minoxidil (Rogaine) for speedy hair growth after transplantation.

The price of hair transplants depends on the amount of hair you are moving. In general, it ranges from INR 50,000/ to INR 2,00,000/ Many insurance plans don’t cover it.
