The loss of hair is a common but often overlooked problem among a large number of people all over the world. Once you start losing hair, especially after a certain age, it is accepted as just another sign of aging. But, this may not be the actual reason of hair loss. In fact, American people spend nearly 800 million dollars a year on hair restoration treatments, which shows that many persons consider this phenomenon a loss of their beauty and want it treated as a disease.
The first phase of the hair restoration treatment is medicinal drugs. There are two chemical compounds that are proven to provide positive results – Minoxidil and Propecia.
- Minoxidil- Minoxidil is an ingredient found in many anti hair-loss products including shampoo and serums. This drug is known to stop further hair fall and preserve the hair left on the scalp. The best procedure is massaging the compound deep into the roots of the hairs, preferably twice a day. Minoxidil also promotes new hair growth to some extent. This drug is most effective in the starting phases of baldness rather than the more advanced cases.
- Propecia- Propecia is the other medical drug that has proven to work for hair restoration in men. This drug reduces the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) from the male hormone testosterone. DHT signals the extremely hormone-sensitive hair follicles to stop generating hair and go into their rest phase. This drug is administered orally to the patients, preferably once a day.
A combination of both these drugs is also used for the male pattern baldness treatment.
